WhatsApp and cannoli

Our search for cannoli yesterday got sidetracked, so it was the first thing on my mind this morning. Kevin’s primary agenda was to find a good cup of cappuccino. I knew for both of us to be happy, I needed to find a place that sold both. What an unlikely pairing to be able to post a question to Pasticceria Cappello, a Sicilian pastry shop through WhatsApp, “do you sell espresso” and get a quick, “Buongiorno, yes!” before the shop has even opened. It was well worth 15 minutes of dodging unexpectedly heavy traffic at 10:00am. Although I got the piccolo size, there was deliciousness in every creamy/crunchy bite. Kevin has typically not been a fan of this delectable confection, but the preparation here is starting to make him a fan.

WhatsApp is an app that combines encrypted text messaging and free video and voice (phone) calls, regardless of where you use it. There are no long-distance charges, but both parties need it installed in order to use it.

The Wi-Fi in our Airbnb may be painfully slow and antiquated, but Palermo is definitely keeping up in the technology department!
